Carphone Warehouse employ Muppets but their managers do care
March 5, 2007 //

I don’t know what my friends are talking about, I am a patient person.
I had what can only be described as an interesting (almost) one way conversation with a Carphone Warehouse customer support representative earlier today. I called to pay a couple of bills because their online registration system was down. After wading through the menu system, I ended up talking to a Muppet.
I don’t know how to transcribe the conversation. All I can say is that I had to repeat myself over and over again; the Muppet’s only response was to sing and mumble. When I asked to speak to a line manager (no fewer than 5 times), he asked why. When I said to complain about his behaviour he just said
Thank you for calling Carphone Warehouse, good bye
The phone line went dead, he hung up on me!
So, when I got through again to pay my bill I decided to complain about the previous caller. They took my complaint very seriously. They not only checked their system to see who accessed my account, they actually listened to the call.
The manager who called me back an hour later was great. She could only apologise profusely. She even commended me for putting up with the Muppet for so long and for being so patient throughout the call. She actually said that she couldn’t believe how long I stayed on the line as she would have hung up a lot sooner.
So, ladies and gentlemen, I am patient after all ![]()
For those of you who work in telephone support, be warned, your calls are recorded!
Perhaps this should be added to Adrian’s post about the mad calls from the AOL days.

TP - looking at your company Web site (http://www.opaltelecom.co.uk), I can see why you’d make a comment like that… lots of Talk Talk icons on the site

[...] You will be absolutely amazed (at least I hope will be) when they asked for my credit card details in order to take payment for a specific phone bill. Naturally, this question wouldn’t come as a surprise if I was the one who made the call. However, this wasn’t the usual Carphone Warehouse muppet I’m used to. It was someone working in finance and who should know better. They called me and asked for my name, address, name of bank and credit card details. [...]
