Haha this is interesting - we have a 40% investment in a new web startup, we bank with HSBC ourselves, and we have over £20k to bank from customers of the new site and require no borrowing…. but because the new venture is an LLP with two members: one a human and one a corporate entity (ie a ltd company) HSBC’s “systems don’t allow this”.
“Can you change the shareholder structure?” was one call centre’s helpful suggestion.
Numerous calls to my branch, other branches and supervisors in the call centre failed to get any clueful answers, or indeed anyone who seemed to even understand what an LLP was!
Somewhat strange, and despite the credit crunchHSBC clearly isn’t desperate for cash just yet!

Well done on 1st video post! hurrah

@Tom - the HSBC online application also assumes at least 2 directors. It’s impossible to open an account online if you only have 1.
Ben, the weather was great - hence why I was sitting in the back garden.

Bizarre!
So I presume the other banks don’t have these policies?

saw the twitter post earlier about this, piqued my interest. That is pretty mad alright. Either the company doesn’t understand what social networking means, or else those two individuals are a bit… confused. It might be worth emailing the Mail.

That is truely bizarre. I got the worng end of the stick from Rob lochs tweets. Thought it was loans or something you couldn’t get, but not being able to open an account is MAD.
So as it stands, you might get investment in the UK but can’t open an account to put it in, you can open an account in Ireland but can’t get investment.
BTW: First video post was quite good actually.
