Networking week in Dublin

Supporting the Irish Technology Community

Next week is a busy one for networkers in Dublin. I’ll be in Ireland from Tuesday through to Sunday.

Tuesday 26th

19:00 Web Technology Conference starts. I’ve been asked to take part on a panel but it has yet to be confirmed.

Wednesday 27th

Ireland’s first Girl Geek dinner. I’ve been to one as Sarah Blow’s (original founder) guest and they’re good fun. I wish the guys (sorry, couldn’t resist) all the best and I’ll happily await the arrival of my guest invitation ;)

The girl geek dinner is an evening for women in technology to get together, enjoy some dinner and meet some new faces. It’s a way to encourage your fellow women colleagues to join the community, offer their expertise and help grow the network of role models and leaders here in Ireland.

Check out Martha’s Rotter’s blog for more detail.

Thursday 28th

Ireland’s first ever User Group pub quiz. Eh, anyone fancy dinner?

Friday 29th

I’m giving a talk (Track 3) at the Irish Web Technology Conference. It has been organised by IrishDev.com and the user groups MTUG.ie, Ruby Ireland, DubJug.org, Python Ireland and PHP.ie. Sounds like a bunch of techies, but there are marketing related tracks at what’s going to be a rather big conference. I think they’re expecting upwards of 450 delegates.

I believe there’s an after party in the evening.

About my talk

Turn the Web brilliant, gleaming and stain free with POWDER (Content Labels). With my can of beans (no really) I will do a joint presentation on how Content Labels are the next step in reclaiming the Web from scammners, phishers and malicious people who do their best to ruin your day.

Content Label technology and the Semantic Web will restart the conversation between Web site owners and surfers so that everyone can make an informed decision about what they want to see online before they take that leap of faith and click on that unknown link. Find the information you want faster, feel more secure buying products online and make sure your kids never wander into the darker parts of the Web.

Saturday 30th 1st

Irish Blog Awards.

Created and managed by Damien Mulley. I’m looking forward to this.

So, if you’re around Dublin and fancy hooking up for dinner let me know and I’ll host a tech dinner.

Blog awards date is Sat 1st Mar, not 30th!

Sing it with me now Paul - "30 days has September, April, June and November… " ;-P

I’m heading up to the big smoke for the Blog Awards so a dinner sounds good. I actually met Pat Phelan in the flesh for the first time at TechLudd last night, after knowing him for what feels like years online. Next it’s time to find out if you’re for real or just a top-secret bot escaped from the Google lab ;)

Just re-reading the rules for the Geek Girl Dinner: The one rule is that men are allowed to attend, but they must be the guest of a woman who was already planning to attend.  Get that? ;-)

Do you wanna be my guest then? :)

@elly oops re date. Regarding the girl geek dinner, I was aware of the rule as I was brought as Sarah Blow’s guest in London - I was hinting ;) so would love to take you up on your offer.

    @James ah you’re a funny guy :) we’ll have to arrange dinner!

@PaulWalsh - you’ve been registered (http://www.irelandgirlgeekdinners.com/?p=6), will catch up with you during the week, maybe meet for a drink beforehand?

    Hey Paul,

Interested in dinner if you are thinking of Friday before IWTC after party or (lunch?) before Blog Awards on Saturday, something like a guys version of Sabrina’s Ladies Tea Party? http://sabrinadent.com/2008/01/12/irish-blog-awards-tea-party/
Anywhere but that dreadful Jaipur place you had the last few dinners in would be good :-)

@Ciaran - From what I can remember, nobody has ever paid for a meal at Jaipur when I’ve hosted. That’s enough food (all they could eat) for more than 100 people… oh and all the drink they could consume too ;)

Me? a Tea Party? I’ll leave that for someone else to comment on.

Regarding a meetup - Saturday afternoon might work. Let’s see who else wants to do what. Either way, you’re paying ;)

I was only joking of course :) thats an amazing amount of food to put up, Jaipur is actually one of my favourite Indians in Dublin.

And I did say a guys version :)

Will see you then either way at the awards.
