Do you think Twitter will see mass adoption in 2008?

Twitter will probably be bought by a company for between $100m and $200m and used as an engine for an application with a simple UI. But it still won’t go mainstream in 2008.
Such an application would take more than 6 months to build and at least the same to get any kind of adoption. So, even if Twitter was bought today, it won’t be adopted by the masses until at least 2009, if at all. Simple math.
Do you agree?

I definitely think people need to give Twitter a chance because too often people get the wrong idea when think "social." And so social networking tools, like Twitter, get a bad rap! For me and my "network" it’s more about advancing our ideas. We are a group of progressive educators who try to get teachers and decision makers to think out of the box. Our circle uses Twitter, for example, to share examples of great teaching practices. We blog about these contantly and share great ideas. It is a non-linear effort to push people out of their comfort zone to teach students IN their comfort zone!

Twitter needs a major architectural overhaul before it scales to the next level. Otherwise, it lacks real enterprise strength and you need an enterprise toolset if you expect to survive the next wave of really simple groupgab.
